Just how can a church minister on the Internet?

The first questions to answer are 'what is my church's ministry approach'? and 'what are our strong points'? and 'what is the need out there that we can fill'?.

Note that your web ministry is about how you can serve and minister to the internet neighborhood. It is a window that allows people to see you and for you to see them.

Your web ministry is really an extension of your existing church or ministry.

Develop relationships through love and service, and you will develop supporting well wishers.

1. Define your approach. Are you going to provide information, or online resources, interactive communication, ministry opportunities and support, services to the local or worldwide community, or ? In business we call this defining a niche.

2. Define how you are going to serve online through your web ministry. Are you going to offer to pray? Are you going to offer to teach? Are you going to offer lessons and studies? Are you going to share information and techniques with other leaders? Are you going to offer information of interest to the unchurched? or discipling materials? Are you going to send out devotionals, or prayer techniques, or information about conditions in your physical neighborhood?  Are you going to send out news of recent conversions, or recent meetings of people who aren't saved?

A ministry approach requires more than an online brochure. It dictates reaching out, attracting inward to the light.

About half of your visitors or more will be people that are not already connected to your ministry. Less than half will typically be people who are connected to you already. As such, you must recognize that your site will have information of interest to return visitors to your site ( ie. existing members ) and the other portions of your site will speak to your guests.

3. Commit to creating relationships. Your website is all about creating new relationships and deepening existing ones. The action point of a website is when a visitor contacts you through your website contact form or email. Then is when YOUR ministry starts. You must willfully determine that you will quickly and faithfully respond to the contact by email. You must stay in touch with this person as often as THEY want you to. You must commit to LOVING THEM as the bible teaches us.

Your web ministry can thrive and even help your church thrive. It is very important to minister to the netizens and to use email voraciously.
